Q: Is Dry Shampoo For Black Hair?
A: There are many different kinds of dry shampoos on the market that use different methods of cleaning hair. It can come in the form of powder or liquid no-rinse shampoo.
Dry shampoo is not a replacement for shampooing your hair. There are no cleansing properties in it. It is just an oil absorber.
Who this product best works for are non ethnic women who shampoo their hair frequently( 2-3 times a week). Because of the oil absorbing properties in the dry shampoo, they are able to prolong shampooing by a few days. It is not considered a long-term solution to hygiene because it doesn’t rid the hair of foreign particles.
When used on ethnic hair it tends to leave a dusty residue and make the hair too dry. Most times ethnic women shampoo their hair once a week or sometimes even once every two weeks! unlike their non ethnic counter parts. In this case I would opt for the real deal(wash that mess!).
There are some instances when I used dry shampoo on weaves at photo shoots to remove oil from the models hair. It did remove some of the oil, but it did leave back a dusty film. This is how I used the product; I parted out small sections and applied it to the hair before blow dry styling with a round brush. Even though the dry shampoo did somewhat help, I still was not pleased with the overall results.
So in conclusion I was asked if dry shampoo is good for black hair? Hmmmmm… let me think about it…NO!
