Q:Stacey, if someone is experiencing hair loss, does taking biotin and those hair, skin and nail supplement help and restore hair growth?

A:It all depends on what’s causing the hair loss. Hair loss is also known as Alopecia and there are 3 contributing factors that lead to this conditions: heredity, medical conditions/medication, and trauma/stress. Each factor has additional variables.

So if the person is losing hair because of a vitamin deficiency then a vitamin supplement will work ie. Iron, A,C,E or in this case all the B’s (B complex, Biotin etc.) The leading cause of Hair loss in women is Anemia which is an iron deficiency. A simple blood test can rule this out.

If vitamin supplements are needed (which they usually are) they should be taken with a multivitamin because some vitamins work best when combined with others. Like iron and vitamin c or calcium and vitamin D.

If the person is losing hair for other reasons such as medical or trauma, vitamins won’t really help!

Great Question!

Are Taking Vitamins Good For My Hair?

Posted by stacey | Posted in Uncategorized, Vitamins | Posted on 10-28-2011 | 0 Comments

Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of questions and concerns regarding vitamins that are good for the hair. What do you think about Biotin? Which vitamins should I take for hair growth? What about prenatal vitamins? These are valid questions and concerns. Vitamins are important for a healthy body and healthy hair . Certain vitamins and minerals must be present in adequate proportions or there will be faulty or nonexistent hair growth. Taking proper, daily vitamins and minerals plays a huge role in keeping hair healthy.

Many nutritional deficiencies can lead to thinning hair or even total baldness. Your hair ultimately reflects the overall condition of your body. If your body is healthy and well-nourished, your hair will be your shining glory. If you have any health problems or suffer from any nutritional deficiencies, your hair may stop growing, show damage or become brittle. Yes, vitamins A, C, and E, Biotin and other hair, skin, and nail vitamins are good, but it works best when taken daily with a multivitamin. No one vitamin works well alone.

African American women tend to be anemic(low red blood cells), which causes dry fragile hair. If you are anemic, be sure to also take an iron supplement. A good multivitamin is the foundation of overall health and nutrition. If you are looking for a high quality multivitamin, I suggest that you take a look at the Nutrilite Women’s Pack, Dietary supplement for active women.
